On 2nd September, 2024, the MD/CEO, Directors and Staff of Charkin Maritime Academy/Offshore Safety Centre welcomed the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Jamie Christoff who paid a visit to the facility to commission the Full Mission Free-Fall Lifeboat Simulators recently acquired by the Company.

In his welcome address, the CEO/Founder, Charkin Maritime Academy, Eze Dr. Charles K. Wami (KSC) expressed great pleasure in welcoming the Commissioner, colleagues, Management Board, Guests from the Nigerian Maritime Industry and other stakeholders present.

He cited that the centre was set up with the aim of delivering safety training to operators of the global maritime industry in general and the oil and gas sector in particular which is why the trainings are certified and accredited by local and international institutions such as the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) who have approved for the centre to run International Maritime Organisation (IMO) STCW courses, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), formally known as Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), OPITO, Oil and Gas Training Association of Nigeria (OGTAN), IWCF, IADC, Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN).

The Academy is also accredited by Nautical Institute (NI) to conduct Dynamic Positioning (DP) courses, International Association for Safety and Survival Training (IASST) of the United Kingdom.

In his response, the High Commissioner, Mr. Jamie Christoff, thanked the CEO and staff of Charkin Maritime Academy/Offshore Safety Centre for the hospitable welcome he received. He expressed his respect and high regard for all mariners around the world while stating that he, as a young boy growing up in Canada, lived and witnessed the intensity of the waves coming from the Atlantic. He thanked Dr. Wami for being such a visionary, for setting up Charkin Maritime Academy and for training seafarers. He assured Dr. Wami that his requests will be taken back to Ottawa where he expects that all necessary actions will be taken to grant the requests as made. He was then led to officially commission the Full Mission Free Fall Lifeboat Simulators which included the Free Fall Lifeboat, Twin Fall Lifeboat, and Fast Rescue Boat, all of which are the most advanced free fall simulators yet; the first in Africa and the third in the world.
