STCW Basic Mandatory Training(2010)

Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping(STCW 2010)

Duration: 5 days

Target:     The STCW Code applies globally, and its main purpose is to establish competency and training standards to ensure the safety of life at sea, protect the marine environment, and enhance professional qualifications in the shipping industry.

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor, followed by Practical demonstration by delegates.

Basic Requirement: Valid Nimasa Approved Medical certificate of fitness, two passport photograph, government issued identity card.

Time: 8am-5pm(on training days)

Validity: 5 years

The Dynamic Positioning Basic Induction course

Duration: 5 days

Target:     The scope of this course is to provide prospective DP Operators with introductory training on the theory and practice of Dynamic Positioning that fulfils the requirements of Phase A of the Nautical Institute Scheme which follows the recommendations contained in the IMO codes and the IMCA guidelines.

Training:  The course will be conducted over 5 Days (Monday – Friday) with a total duration of 32 hours. The total duration includes a teaching time of 29 hours. The remaining duration will be utilized for the On-Line Examination instituted by the Nautical Institute and Administrative formalities.

Basic Requirement: Certificate of Competency (COC), Seaman’s Discharge book, International Passport,
3 Passport size-colored photographs.

The Dynamic Positioning Simulator course

Duration: 5 days

Target:     The main purpose of this course is to enhance the ability and confidence of Prospective DPO’s in Operational Planning, Vessel Handling, Equipment Management, Communications, Teamwork and Recording of events to conduct safe DP operations.

Training: The course will be conducted over 5 Days (Monday – Friday) with a total duration of 32 hours. The total duration includes a teaching time of 29 hours. The assessment and evaluation procedures shall be as per the Nautical Institute guidelines. The assessment for the DP Simulator course includes a theoretical (online) and a practical assessment. Each component must be completed successfully there is no specific order in which they must be completed.

3 Passport size-colored photographs and NI Logbook.

DP Vessel Maintainer’s Course

Duration: 5 days

Target:    Part A Course, which provides training to help meet the continuing professional development needs for technical staff engaged in operations aboard vessels with dynamic positioning equipment.

Training: The course will be conducted over 4.5 working days (Monday to Friday) over a total duration of 28 Hours. simulator time and assessment spread. The 5th Day will mainly cater to administrative requirements such as course formalities and NI Online examination

Advanced Fire Fighting

Duration: 3 days

Target:     This course is for The target audience for Advanced Fire Fighting includes ship officers, crew members, and marine safety personnel. It focuses on training them to manage and respond to complex fire emergencies effectively, ensuring the safety of the vessel and its occupants.

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor, followed by Practical demonstration by delegates.

Basic Requirement: Valid STCW 2010 certificate, Basic Fire Fighting certificate, Nimasa Approved Medical certificate of fitness, two passport photograph, government issued identity card.

Ratings Forming Part of Navigational Watch(RFPNW)

Duration: 5 days

Target:    includes entry-level maritime crew members assigned to navigational watch duties, cadets and trainees preparing for these roles, and shipping companies responsible for their training and certification. It also encompasses training institutions offering STCW-approved courses and maritime administrations overseeing compliance with competency standards. This ensures that all personnel are qualified to maintain safe and efficient watchkeeping operations at sea.

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor, followed by Practical demonstration by delegates.

Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boat(FRC)

Duration: 4 days

Target:     This course aims to provide the training for candidates to launch and take charge of a fast rescue boat in accordance with section A-VI/2 of the STCW code and IMO Model Course 1.24

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor, followed by Practical demonstration by delegates.

Basic Requirement: Valid Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats(PSCRB), STCW 2010, Nimasa Approved Medical certificate of fitness, two passport photograph and  government issued identity card.

Global Maritime Distress & Safety System(GMDSS)

Duration: 10 days

Refresher: 5 days

Target:     The target audience of GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) includes maritime operators, ship crews, and vessel owners. It is designed to ensure safety at sea by providing communication and distress alerting systems for ships in distress and must be officers in the deck department.

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor, followed by Practical demonstration by delegates.

Electronic Chart Display & Information Systems(ECDIS)

Duration: 5 days

Target:     The delegate undertaking this course must have accomplished some formal instruction in terrestrial navigation, must have at minimum some familiarization with visual navigation, have accomplished a period of supervised bridge watch-keeping duties. This course is open to Masters, Chief Mates and all officers who will be in charge of Navigational watch on vessels equipped with ECDIS

Proficiency in Security Awareness

Duration: 1 days

Target:    Includes all maritime personnel, such as seafarers, shore-based staff, and shipping company employees, responsible for maintaining the safety and security of vessels and operations. It also encompasses training institutions and regulatory bodies ensuring compliance with STCW security standards.

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor.

Proficiency in Ship Security Officer

Duration: 2 days

Target:     The course is open to all seafarers who are to serve on board sea-going merchant ships and obtained seagoing service as mentioned in STCW Regulation VI/5 as amended and must be officers on board.

Medical First Aid

Duration: 3 days

Target:     This course is for ship crew members, officers, and marine personnel. It aims to equip them with the basic knowledge and skills to provide emergency medical care in the event of illness or injury onboard.

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor, followed by Practical demonstration by delegates.

Basic Requirement: Valid STCW 2010 certificate, Basic First Aid certificate, Nimasa Approved Medical certificate of fitness, two passport photograph, government issued identity card.

DP Awareness Course

Duration: 4 days

Target:     This course will enable persons in support operations with DP vessels and Dynamic Positioning Operators, to gain insight of DP functions, capabilities and fundamental elements required for Full DP system operation and Station-keeping. mostly Shore Base Support Staff.

Training:  The course will be conducted for 4 Days with a total duration of 28 hours.

3 Passport size-colored photographs.

DP Revalidation Course

Duration: 5 days

Target:    The course is intended for those who have already been issued a DPO certificate from the Nautical Institute but are unable to revalidate their certificate due to insufficient DP sea time. The overall course aim is to update the DPOs with the latest rules and regulations, position references and sensors, known DP incidents and lessons learned

Training:  The course will be conducted over 4.5 working days (Monday to Friday) over a total duration of 28 Hours. The 5th Day will mainly cater to administrative requirements such as course formalities and NI Online examination

Chief Security Officer

Proficiency in Tanker Farmiliarization

Duration: 5 days

Target:     This course provides training for crew members, officers, and maritime personnel working on tanker vessels. The training aims to provide essential knowledge of tanker operations, safety procedures, and cargo handling to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Training:  Training will be provided by Explanation (Theory), Demonstration by the instructor, followed by Practical demonstration by delegates.

High Voltage

Duration: 5 days

Target:     The aim of this course is to provide Marine Engineering and Shipboard Electrical personnel, the necessary education and training in the operation and management of electrical power plant above 1000volts.

Rating Forming Part of Engineering Watch

Duration: 5 days

Target:     The course aims to provide training for ratings forming part of a watch for a manned engine room.

Bridge Resource Management(BRM)

Duration: 3 days

Target:     Intending delegate for this course should have a minimum of six months watch keeping experience as officer in charge of a navigational watch.

Target:     This course is intended to provide a person with the knowledge, skill and understanding of leadership and teamwork at the operational level on board a ship.

Engine Room Resource Management

Target:     This is for  marine engineers, engine room crews, and ship operators. It focuses on improving teamwork, decision-making, and resource utilization to enhance safety and efficiency in the engine room.

COXWAIN

Duration: 4 days

Target:    The aim of the initial training program is to equip delegates with the knowledge and skills required to perform the role of an Offshore Lifeboat Coxwain effectively.
